Happiness is a butterfly

Updated: Dec 7, 2021

When I was in elementary school, I was typically in the field next to the playground trying to catch butterflies. My favorite butterfly to catch was a monarch. My teacher noticed how much I enjoyed trying to catch butterflies, and she gave me a net I could use at recess.

Monarch butterflies are migratory. Typically the migration occurs in October. My home town (Salina, KS) is located in the directly in line with the butterfly's migration path.

I would stare at these beautiful creatures. Watching them take flight and head south. I remember wondering how they knew which direction to go.

My friend told me, "Remember. Butterflies go whenever they please and please wherever they go."

There are more than 17,000 species of butterflies registered in the world. Peru has the largest number with more than 4,000 butterflies specifically in Cusco area.

Happiness is a butterfly.
